Sunday Notes: The 12 Week Goal
A Sunday journaling guide for setting a goal that actually feels doable and following through on it
Can I be honest with you? I used to be terrible at setting goals. Every time I sat down to think about what I wanted, I’d end up spiraling into this massive life plan that felt so overwhelming I’d close my notebook and just... not do it.
So I started smaller. Instead of mapping out the next year of my life, I started asking myself what I could actually commit to in the next 12 weeks. And something about that timeframe just clicked. It’s close enough to feel real but long enough to actually see progress.
That’s what we’re doing today. We’re setting a 12 week goal. Just one. And we’re going to make it something you’ll actually follow through on.
First, let’s pick the right goal.
This part matters more than people think.
What is one area of your life that you really want to move forward right now? What actually matters to you, not what you think you should want.
If you made real progress on this one thing over the next 12 weeks, how would that feel?
Is this goal specific enough that you’d know when you were making progress? If not, how can you make it more concrete?
Now let’s break it down.
A goal without a plan is just a wish and we’re not doing that today.
What are 3 small actions you can take each week that directly move you toward this goal? Think repeatable and realistic, the kind of things you’ll actually do.
What does success look like at week 4? Week 8? Week 12?
What’s the first thing you can do this week to get started? This week, not someday.
Let’s talk about the follow through.
Because starting is easy. Staying consistent is the real work.
What has gotten in the way of your goals before? How will you handle it this time?
Who in your life can you share this goal with to help keep you accountable?
What will you do on the weeks where motivation is low and you really don’t feel like it?
12 weeks. One goal. You’ve got this. 🧡
